Chapter 1
EVELYN
"Ava, how do I look on this gown?" I asked my best friend who I was on a video call with.
My wedding would be coming up in the next three weeks, so I went for my gown fitting.
"It looks calm, naturally stunning just like you, Eve." Ava gave her comment, adjusting her glasses.
"Thank you." I turned around for her to see.
"Ouu, I love those tiny details at the back. How much did you get it for?"
"Five thousand, haven't paid for it though." I sighed as I reached for the zip at the back.
"Ahh, it's too pricey. Didn't you go to your aunt's store?"
"It's my aunt's store, Ava." I was out of the gown now, carefully folding it. My aunt, Matilda, had quite a big clothing store mainly for bridals. My mom advised it'd be better if her younger sister handled my wedding dress.
"No discount?"
"It was actually five thousand, twenty dollars." I did not want to laugh cause it sounded so damn funny.
"No way, Eve. That's rather... surprising."

"Of course, he has to. He's gonna be your husband soon. He has to start taking up responsibilities." Ava stated.
"I wanted to do this one for myself."
"Look for something else, darling."
My phone shook with a vibration sound. It was my alarm.
"What's that? Are you getting another call?"
"No, not really. It's my one year anniversary with Rafe. I have to rush his house before he gets back from work to make him a surprise dinner. Gotta grab a wine too."
"Aww, that's romantic," Ava gushed.
"Yeah." A faint blush crept to my cheeks. "I have to go now, Ava. I've got barely two hours to his closing time. Talk to you later."
On my way to my fiancé's house, my mind drifted to what it'd be like being Rafe's bride in three weeks. I mean it would be nothing short of a dream come true. He ticked all the boxes when it came to my definition of a perfect man.
Oh Rafe Orton, my lovely boyfriend. He worked with the publishing house where I take my books to. Yes, that was how we met. I was skeptical at first 'cause I'm not a fan of mixing business with pleasure, but he won me over. Boom! Nine months later he proposed, now in less than a month, we'd be doing this life together, forever...with kids.
I was supposed to stop by at florist's shop to check on the flowers for my wedding bouquet, however I cancelled the appointment. My man first. Today was more special.
"I'd be stopping here." I said to the cab man. "Here, take." I handed him a few notes. "Keep the change." I was in a very happy mood.
Grabbing my purse, jacket and wine bottle, I made way to the building where my fiancé lived in. The weather currently
