Wife Reclaims Her Company
Synopsis of Wife Reclaims Her Company
Chapter 1
I tugged at the sleeve of my simple cashmere sweater, feeling distinctly underdressed among the sea of cocktail dresses and tailored suits filling the Grand Ballroom of Seattle's most exclusive hotel. The annual corporate gala was in full swing—crystal chandeliers casting a golden glow over the celebration of another record-breaking year. A year that, though no one in this room knew it, was largely my creation.
I slipped through the crowd, practiced in the art of being invisible. Seven years of playing the part of a low-level employee had made me expert at navigating these waters without creating ripples. The weight of being a ghost in my own company never felt heavier than during these celebrations.
"Victoria." Eleanor's voice was barely audible as she appeared at my elbow, champagne flute in hand. "Everything's set for tomorrow's board presentation. I've hidden the files in the usual place."
I accepted the drink with a grateful smile. Eleanor was the only person besides Marcus who knew my true identity as founder and majority shareholder. My loyal gatekeeper.
"Thank you," I murmured, taking a small sip. "How's the crowd tonight?"

For a fleeting moment, warmth bloomed in my chest. Perhaps tonight would be different. Perhaps tonight, he would acknowledge me, even in some small way.
"Amanda Hayes, everyone!"
The crowd erupted as Amanda ascended the steps to the stage, her emerald dress catching the light, her smile triumphant. She stood beside Marcus, their shoulders nearly touching as he draped an arm around her in congratulation.
"Amanda has shattered every sales target we set," Marcus continued, his voice rich with admiration. "She's not just a saleswoman; she's a force of nature. The backbone of our success this quarter."
I watched as Amanda basked in his praise, her hand resting on his arm a beat too long. Something cold and uneasy settled in my stomach. The way he looked at her—was it merely professional admiration?
Before I could analyze it further, my feet were moving of their own accord. Perhaps it was the champagne, or perhaps it was seven years of shadows finally taking their toll, but suddenly I was approaching the stage, weaving through tables of startled executives.
"And what about your tech team, Marcus?" I called out playfully, reaching the edge of the stage. "Don't we deserve a little recognition too?"
The spotlight swung toward me, momentarily blinding. When my vision
