I got myself a boyfriend—tall, hot, quiet, exactly what I was looking for.

Until that one random run-in off campus. Suddenly he turned all passionate and clingy, and in that department? No restraint whatsoever—new tricks every single time. I was in heaven and hell at the same time.

Chapter 1

After my shift at the campus café, I slumped on the CTA Red Line, mindlessly scrolling through my phone.

A post suddenly popped up in my Reddit feed from r/relationships. It had a ton of upvotes, but the title was pure despair:

“It's not just in person—our texts have dried up too. We barely see each other anymore, and when we do, she just says ‘I'm tired' and crashes.”

“After we hang out, it takes her forever to text back. When I ask what's wrong, she just says ‘busy.' Busy with what? Classes? Work?”

“I snuck by her job once. She's grinding at that indie coffee shop near campus. Is it because I'm not stepping up? Does she think I can't take care of her?”

“The worst part: right before closing, I saw this pathetic loser standing next to her. The way he looked at her—like he wanted to devour her. I wanted to punch his face in.”

“He had his arm around her waist like it was his. My girlfriend's waist isn't for just any guy to touch.”

“Sorry, rant over.”

“How do I make her like me again? Make her want to spend my money and let me spoil her? And how do I get her away from that creep for good?”
