Poisoned by Her Alpha Mate
Synopsis of Poisoned by Her Alpha Mate
Chapter 1
I smoothed down the silver-blue silk dress I'd chosen for our fifth mating anniversary, my heart fluttering with excitement. Five years with Marcus. Five years as Luna of the Silver Ridge Pack. Despite my ongoing battle with what we'd called my 'wolf sickness,' tonight would be perfect.
Marcus had left for an emergency meeting with neighboring pack leaders, promising to return for our celebration dinner. His absence gave me the perfect opportunity to finalize my anniversary gift—a comprehensive research proposal on werewolf genetics that might help others suffering from conditions like mine.
I needed one last reference from Marcus's private study, a text on ancestral pack bloodlines that would complete my work. He rarely allowed anyone in his sanctuary, but surely he wouldn't mind—not today, not for this.
The heavy oak door swung open silently, and I breathed in the familiar scent of pine and leather that always clung to my mate. My fingers trailed over his immaculate desk, everything in perfect order as always. The leather-bound volume I sought would be in his reference cabinet.
As I scanned the shelves, my elbow bumped against the corner of his desk, causing a small click. I frowned, noticing a seam in the wood that hadn't been visible before. A hidden compartment? My curiosity piqued, I pressed gently, watching as a small drawer slid open.
Inside lay a leather journal, its cover worn from frequent handling. The words "Luna Suppression Protocol" were written in Marcus's precise handwriting across the front.
My hands trembled as I opened it, a cold dread spreading through my chest.
Page after page of meticulous notes. Formulas. Dosages. Schedules. All in Marcus's handwriting. Detailed records of wolfsbane extracts and silver-laced compounds. Effects documented with clinical precision: "Day 127: Subject showing increased disorientation. Wolf suppression at 68%. Increase evening dose by 0.5ml."
Subject. He called me *subject*.
Beneath the journal lay a stack of letters, the paper perfumed with a sickeningly sweet floral scent I recognized immediately. Victoria Walsh. The rogue she-wolf who had "saved" Marcus during that pack alliance meeting three years ago.
"My dearest Alpha," one letter began. "The Luna suppression is progressing perfectly. She suspects nothing, believing your 'remedies' are helping her. Your performance as the devoted mate is masterful. By the next full moon, she'll be weak enough for the public rejection ceremony. The Council won't question your decision when they see how unstable she's become..."
The letters blurred as tears filled my eyes. Three years. For three years, he'd been poisoning me. Weakening my wolf. Making me believe I was sick while he carried on with Victoria.
A sudden, agonizing howl erupted in my mind—my wolf, suppressed for so long, fighting through the fog of poison. The pain dropped me to my knees, my body convulsing as my wolf clawed desperately toward consciousness.
*Marcus! How could you?* I screamed through our mind-link, unable to contain the tsunami of betrayal crashing through me.
His response came immediately, cold and amused. *So, you finally found out.
