Synopsis of Once Played, Now I Play Them Better
Chapter 1
When I return to the day I discover my husband, David Stone, is cheating on me, I immediately switch shifts with my colleague.
In my previous life, David had been fooling around with my best friend, Roxanne Lane, in his car when they got into an accident and were rushed to the hospital.
When I received the news, I hurried there at once and saw them tangled together, naked, in the aftermath of the wreck.
My colleague operated on them, and both of them survived. However, the shock was too much for me, and I passed out.
When I woke up, David sent me divorce papers, demanding that I leave the marriage empty-handed.
Citing his affair, I demanded half of his assets.
In response, he sneered, "Me? Cheating? Where's the evidence?"
That was when I remembered that I had fainted before taking any photos.
The hospital's surveillance cameras happened to be down that day, leaving me without a shred of proof. I lost the case and walked out with nothing.
On the day of the divorce, broke and numb, I stumbled out of the courthouse and was hit by a car.
Now, the moment I open my eyes again, I'm back on the day David and Roxanne are taken to the hospital.
"Dr. Smith, are you sure you want to switch shifts with me? The night shift can be brutal if a surgical case comes in."
In the hospital, Caroline Little, a doctor on my team, sounded both surprised and relieved. After all, no one wanted to take the night shift.
I smiled and nodded. "It's fine. I'm feeling energized tonight. I can handle a surgery."
Caroline beamed and gathered her things before going home. I wiped the smile off my face, put on a mask, and got prepared to head to the operating room.
After all, I knew that in just 20 minutes, my husband, David Stone, and my best friend, Roxanne Lane, would be wheeled into the hospital following a car crash caused by their shameless, reckless behavior.
In my previous life, Caroline had performed their surgery. I had rushed to the hospital when I heard about it. When I had seen David and Roxanne together, I had fainted on the spot.
David and Roxanne had survived the surgery. Then David had asked for a divorce and demanded that I leave the marriage with no claim to our property or savings.
I had pointed out his affair and demanded half of his assets.
He had sneered in response, "Me? Cheating? Where's the proof?"
That was when I remembered that I had fainted from the shock and failed to take any photos. The hospital's surveillance cameras had been down that day, so I had no evidence against him.
I had lost the case in court and walked out with nothing.
On the day of the divorce, penniless and numb, I had stumbled out of the courthouse and had been hit by a car. That was how I had died.
