Chapter 28

Christopher's POV

I came out to get some air because I was feeling claustrophobic. I could not stop thinking about her but she seemed to avoiding me and I could not understand why. Had Sylvester said anything to her? Or was it that she did not want to acknowledge our bond? Because I could have sworn she felt that pull at our first meeting.

That smell again, so intoxicating, she could only be the one, the object of my desire and restlessness. I saw her walking around the grounds looking round as though she was one with the elements. My wolf, Zara, reared his and I quickly followed her.

'Hello, beauty'.

She swung round, and said, a breathless singsong voice, 'Oh, it's you'. Then she seemed to remember what I have called her. 'My name is Millicent, not Beauty!' she snapped and I found the way she snapped at me rather attractive, almost like a wife snapping lovingly at her husband.

'I know, Millicent', I said smiling. I had been told that my smile was very charming and I hoped she would think that as well. 'But I meant it as a compliment. You are beautiful. Has no one ever told you that?' I asked, drawing close to her. I wanted to control myself, still my movements but I could not as tipping her head up with the my fingers, I looked deep into her eyes and felt it drawing me in. The bond I felt with her was too strong.

'You feel it too, don't you?' I asked and she blinked.

'I don't know what you're talking about', she said too quickly and I knew she was not being sincere.

'You do!' I said with certainty. 'You feel the mate bond, as strongly as I do. You can't deny it and neither is it advisable for you to ignore it'.

'I feel no such thing!' she snapped charmingly again, her lips pouting.

'Is that so?' I asked, wanting to prove to her that she felt the mate bond as strongly as I did. I bent my head and caught her lips in a kiss. It was gentle at first but as her lips opened up and she started responding to my kiss, I grew more passionate, demanding more. Her hands crept up my chest, to curve themselves round my neck, and my tongue thrust deeper into her mouth as I groaned soundlessly, my hand caressing her back, and the other, in her hair. A moan escaped her lips, and I felt my control slipping. We came up for air and her eyes fluttered open. She gazed into my eyes, hers filled with the longing I knew was mirrored in my own eyes but there was something else. She looked bemused.

I bent to capture her lips again, so I could wipe the confusion from her eyes and make her see that she was mine - mine alone, that we belonged together but she pushed me away, holding on to a wall.

'Millicent...' I started, flustered.

'Keep your hands to yourself!' she ordered.

'You are my fated mate, Millicent. How can you even ask that of me?' I asked, hurt that she could say that after what we just shared.

'I am not your mate! 'I am fated to your brother. How dare you try to steal me from him?'

I shut my eyes to stop the hurt from making me speak rashly and to control my randy wolf.

'I was discussing with the elders about this issue and they said it was possible for a female to be mated to two wolves at a time and it is not too surprising since we are twins.', I informed her, swallowing the bitter taste that brought to my mouth. 'but be sincere with yourself, do you feel this exact way with my brother?' I asked.

'You insult me with your questions. Of course I feel sparks when he touches me', she said. 'Why wouldn't I? He's my mate afterall!'

'I can't say if you feel any thing with Sylvester or not but I am sure it isn't as intense as it is between us, and I know you feel it too. In any case, you should choose who you'd rather be with - Sylvester or me', I said, a little jealous that she should feel anything for anyone else but me. But she had unwittingly admitted to feeling sparks at my touch and that calmed me a little. Smiling, I said, 'I am sorry if I came on too strongly but whenever I am around you, I seem to lose control of myself. My wolf wants you desperately and I cannot share you, not even with my brother!' And that was the absolute truth and I hoped she could see that and respond in kind.

'Christopher', she called, 'I appreciate your sincerity about your feelings but I must tell you that I do not return them. And you will be better off looking for someone who will return your feelings because you see, that person, isn't me!'

'Millicent, that's not the way it works', I said catching her hand as she tried to move away.

But her next words hurt me more than I cared to admit ' Do you mind?' she asked, looking at our entwined hands disdainfully.

'I'm sorry', I said, letting go her hand and before I could say what I had in mind, she quickly walked away. I wanted to go after her but I thought better of it. What was the use? She needed time to dissect what she was feeling and make a decision. How could she ask me to look for someone else when all I wanted was her? You don't just see anyone and manufacture feelings for them or a mate bond such as I share with Millicent with them. But if she wanted time, then she shall have it. Though I did not know if I could be patient for long but made up my mind to try if Zara would not keep rearing his head at the sight or scent of Millicent.

Chapter 29

Sylvester's POV

I could not understand what was happening to me. Since Christopher came home, I have started feeling funny towards Millicent. I no longer feel so angry towards her. It is true that I have wanted her for a long time now but that was just lust. Right now, it was no longer a case of just lust, it seemed that I had started liking her. But I will have none of that. Anyone is welcomed to her as long as I can use her for my own ends.

'Why are you restless then?' Ezra asked. 'Christopher will win her and you will lose!'

I was not in the mood to argue with Ezra, so I just paced my room, thinking about the dilemma facing me when a movement down my window drew my attention. I went to the window to check it out and found Christopher with Millicent. They seemed to be discussing. Then Christopher tipped her face up. I felt funny. Apart from that time during my engagement party to Cathania, when Daniel had been dancing with Millicent, I have never felt this funny feeling. I hated the feeling but it was even worse now and I felt Ezra being restless. I do not know why Ezra has not accepted Cathania like I have.

Cathania! That reminds me. I was supposed to meet with her or at leDt send someone with a message for her. A trusted servant. But funny enough, I felt reluctant. That can wait! I assured myself. I needed to know what these two were up to.

Suddenly, Christopher was kissing Millicent. This couldn't be! I have been with the wench for a very long time and I have not been able to give her a proper kiss.

'Who's fault is that?' Ezra asked. I knew how to treat my wolf, it was just to ignore him.

Apart from the time I for Ed my lips on her as a form of punishment for dancing with my Beta, I have not kissed her and that instant cannot even be counted as a real kiss, even if Cathania had not interrupted.

Cathania... Just a little more time and I'd sent someone to give her a message for me but wait, Millicent was not pushing Christopher away like I had anticipated Her had had crept up to his chest and I thought it was to push him away and give him a resounding slap, I would have enjoyed it and might even have applauded but her hands went round Christopher's neck, drawing him closer, kissing him back. They did not seem to care that they were in the full view of anyone who might happen to see them. They were lost in each other's arms.

I grounded my teeth in fury as I saw Christopher place his arms about her, one hand caressing her back and the other combing her hair in their passion and I felt murder rise in my blood.

I could have leaped down from the window, if I could but the window had iron bars and I'll have to climb down the stairs to get to them.

Christopher was supposed to keep away from the woman, damn! I could just take matters into my hands and mate with her, get her pregnant and that will settle the problem of the double mate. I wonder why I hadn't thought of it before now as Christopher obviously has.

'You've been too busy with Cathania, of course!' that was Ezra again.

Then, Millicent was moving away from Christopher. What had he said to her to put her off? That was of no consequence to me. I have to have a word with Christopher and soon before I murder someone.

I leapt down the steps and got to the entrance just as Christopher was coming in, and I almost col

'Christopher, upstairs, in your room, right now!' I said, without mincing words.

'What's the problem?' he asked but I just ignored him and preceded him into his room.

'Sylvester, what's irking you?' he asked and I restrain myself from being physical with him.

'How can you ask that when I just saw you making out with my mate? Did we not agree that we shall leave all mating and the like pending till a solution is found?' I asked.

Christopher looked at me like I had lost it. 'First of all, I was not making out with your mate. I was with my mate and what we were doing does not concerned you or anyone for that matter!' he said fiercely . I have never seen him looking so fierce. 'Secondly, I did not agree with you or those old men in the council to wait for any solutions. If I recall correctly, I said I was going to make my own destiny' and that is what I am doing!'

'You are biting more than you can chew. I had her first!' I shouted.

'That may be true but you did not know what to do with her because you never really appreciated her. You were consumed with your bitterness for her that you never saw the priceless jewel that was Millicent', he shouted right back at me. 'Now it is too late because I will move mountains to make her mine. Anyway, what do you care, you do not love her'.

'But I do!' I said and was immediately shocked at my confession. Where had that come from? But as I considered what I had said, I realised that it was true. I did love Millicent.

I looked at Christopher to see how he took my outburst and saw shock reflected in his eyes.

'You don't really mean that, do you?' he asked, in a gentler tone.

'I do not know how or when it happened. It crept up on me. I know I had started feeling different towards her lately but I felt it was just complacency but now I know better. I cannot bear to see anyone else close to her. I felt like murdering you right now when I saw you kissing her!' I confessed.

'Then we are in deep soup because I will not share her with anyone either! But what about Cathania? I thought you loved her well enough to get engaged to her?''

'Forget Cathania! I am a bit confused about what I feel for her now'. I said shaking my head to clear it of the cobwebs that seem to have been spun there.

'What?' someone said behind us and both of us swirled round to find Cathania standing at the entrance.

Chapter 30

'What are you doing here Cathania?' I asked, not sure how long she had been there or how much she had overheard.

'Is that really necessary?' she asked, her eyes narrowed at me, her lips pressed tightly together.

'I did not ask you to come up. What if Millicent had seen you?' I asked exasperated.

'I waited for you like you asked but you wouldn't come to see me and it was getting late, and I was becoming impatient, you couldn't even sent someone with a message for me. I thought it was odd and came through the secret passageway you showed me to see you but you were not in your room', she said, her chest heaving. 'I heard raised voices and thought I'd investigate, only to hear what I never thought I'd hear you say. You mean you have been deceiving me all this while?

You actually love Millicent and have been lying to me? she asked and I could see the pain in her eyes.

'You misunderstand me, Cathania. It is not what you think!' I said, trying to placate her.

'What else have you been keeping away from me?' she asked, her eyes very red. 'You have been mating her right under my nose and use the same filthy hands on me?'

'I was trying to arrange something', I said, not exactly sure what even I meant by that.

Christopher who had been listening quietly to this laughed. 'I need to leave the room for you, love birds. You need the privacy!' he said and I was sure he was going after Millicent and though I had a pressing issue here with Cathania, I was still so furious with him that I would have barred his way if I could. But as it is, I left him to go undisturbed while I continued my explanation to Cathania.

'Are you not ashamed? You are fighting with your own twin over a common maid?' she spat.

'She is not a common maid!' I shouted at her. I had not intended to say that but the way she referred to Millicent as an ordinary maid, a woman I was going to make my Luna irked me.

Cathania was staring at me as though I had lost it, much the same way Christopher had looked at me, earlier.

'You have really fallen in love with her haven't you?' she asked in a whisper.

I looked at her and didn't know what to say. How was it possible that I still had feelings for Cathania and was falling in love with Millicent?

'I still love you Cathania', I said, trying to understand my feelings. 'I don't know what I feel for Millicent just yet but all I know is that I am no longer bitter towards her. And you know what she is helping us with!'

'Oh, rubbish!' she screamed. 'That is what you are using as an excuse to keep deceiving me?' she laughed in self mockery. 'You think I am still a child who you can keep deceiving with false promises? Say you want her to be your Luna permanently but don't have to courage to come out plain with it!'

'Cathania, watch your words! I am still your Alpha. How dare you imply that I am a coward?' I asked, looking at her in anger.

'Then be bold and take what you want and stop hiding behind silly excuses!' she screamed at me. I was sure, Millicent would hear her if she was anywhere around and I prayed she wasn't. I drew her inside and shut the door.

'Okay then, I love Millicent and want her to be my real Luna. How dare you question my actions. I am the Alpha and can do whatever I please. I do not owe you nor anyone else for that matter, any explanations. Are you satisfied now?' I asked angrily.

She burst into tears and seeing her crying so heart brokenly, I went to her and pulled her into my arms, wondering how I was going to get myself disentangled from all these problems and dilemma.

'It is going to be alright', I said.

'But you just said...'

'Forget what I just said, you preempted me. I said it in anger to hurt you because you hurt my pride when you implied that I was a coward who did not know what he was doing nor what he wanted', I explained. 'But it's okay, now. You know I cannot bear to see you cry'.

'What about what you said about Millicent? Do you really love her? Tell me the truth!' she insisted. I did not want any argument nor another bout of weeping so I said what I knew she wanted to hear.

'Like I said earlier, I do not feel as angry towards her like I did in the past. I am also sorry for deceiving her into helping me preserve my throne. But that's that. What I feel might just be gratitude or just likeness. It is not something you should be bothered about!'

'Thank you so much', she said and placed her arms round my neck, kissing me. I kissed her back, thinking to end this so she could be gone already but she had other things in mind.

'You know, your brother is really wise. He left because he knew we are love birds who needed privacy to explore each other', she said. 'Let's not disappoint him. Let us use this privacy judiciously'.

This was not what I had in mind but as I stood up, to lock the door, I saw Millicent standing at the door. I stopped short, shocked. Did someone jinx me today? Because the day was fast turning into a disaster. It just wasn't my day at all. How long had Millicent been there? What had she heard? Oh goodness! And why had I not been able to smell her? I had been so sure that she was with Christopher. What do I tell her now? This day seem to be turning out to be a day for explanations.

Before I could speak, she slammed the door was ran off.

This day was definitely not my day at all, I repeated to myself, shaking my head in perplexity.
