Chapter 2
Shocking News
My mother-in-law protested, "No, you're not going through with that—"
The pain in my stomach was intensifying, and I almost lost my strength to stand. My worried mother-in-law held me up. "You're anemic, Rachel. They'll be taking more of your blood for the test. It's not going to be good for the baby. I think we should forget about it."
I was a little uneasy. Maybe my mother-in-law was hiding something from me. If I didn't go through with the test, Cassius' paranoia would only worsen.
I bit my lip and shook my head. With the last ounce of my strength, I held myself up and said yes. "I'll do it."
Under Cassius' gaze, I slowly went into the test center. Jessica took my blood herself. The moment I was pricked, I could sense my mother-in-law's concern grow. The first needle was pulled out only to be followed by a second one.
Then, the third, the fourth, the fifth…
Then the thirty-ninth. I was nearly crashing out at the fortieth draw. Weakly, I asked, "I thought only 10 milliliters of the mother's blood is needed for the test, Dr. Riverson?"
Jessica explained innocently, "Well, we thought we should conduct more tests just to be sure who the baby's father is."
I sneered. "And forty samples aren't enough?"
A pair of hands pushed me down on the cold metal. Coldly, Cassius looked at me. "You don't get to lord anyone around, Rachel. If you don't want to get your blood taken, I'll make you."
He tied my hands on the metal and let Jessica draw my blood ninety-nine times. I was white as paper, and cold sweat was pouring down like rain.
Panicked, my mother-in-law lunged and defended me. "She's going to die! The baby's going to die too if this keeps up!"
Cassius, drowning in his rage, shoved his mother away.
I gasped as my mother-in-law crashed into the wall headfirst. Blood trickled from her forehead, and she fainted. Without thinking, I tried to break free of the ropes, but then the needle jabbed into my veins.
The pain turned my eyes red, and I roared at Cassius, "That's your mother! How could you—"
Cassius slapped me. "Shut up. I know you've been sleeping with random men all the time. I will not let the bastard come to this world!"
I felt the taste of metal dribble down my mouth. He was going to attack me again, and I explained in a hurry, "It is your brother's child!"
Cassius grabbed my chin and snickered. "We'll find out in three hours. In the meantime, stay in the warehouse and think about what you did."
I was thrown into a warehouse and curled up behind the entrance. Bruises decorated my arms. My lips were shouting in pain, and my cheeks were swollen from the slap. The pain in my belly came again. I felt the life within slip away.
I went on my knees and looked at him with a silent plea in my eyes. 'I'm a shameless woman. I only got knocked up with this child because I seduced your brother. Please don't lock me up. Please. I am pregnant with your brother's child.'
Cassius bent over and watched me suffer in pain, but there was no sympathy in his eyes. There was only disgust. "And so what if you are? My brother's a vegetable. He can't be the family's heir. Only Jessica's child can be the Lichtenstein's heir!"
Disbelief flashed in my eyes. 'Jessica is pregnant?' I thought.

Test Results
That explained why Cassius was wary of my child. They'd been sleeping behind my back. That necrospermia story was probably fake. I smiled bitterly as tears streamed down my cheeks.
"Your brother's going to come after you. You'll pay for what you did to me. To his child."
Cassius kicked my belly. "Really? I'd like to see how a guy in a coma will come after me."
That kick nearly locked me out. Though I was in agony, I still tried to keep my baby safe, yet Cassius wasn't about to spare me. He grabbed the scalpel and tore my patient gown open, revealing my belly.
"This bastard is a stain on the family's bloodline! I will scrape it out myself!"
"No!" I felt my throat closing up. The cold metal was closing in on my belly, and it chilled my blood.
Jessica appeared at the entrance and asked darkly, "What if she is pregnant with Donald's child? How are you going to explain yourself to your dad?"
Philip Lichtenstein adored his firstborn, and he was famous for that. If his son's child was killed by Cassius, Philip would make sure Cassius was exiled from the family.
Cassius pulled his hand away darkly. "I got a dozen men to sleep with her. I bet one of them knocked her up. When the results come out, I will take that bastard out myself."
A smiling Jessica wrapped her arms around Cassius' neck and kissed him deeply, calming him down. He pushed her down on the table and tore her clothes apart right in front of me.
"Oh no." She was bashed. "Your wife's still here."
His breathing was ragged, his hands squeezing and kneading Jessica's chest. "She won't be, once the results are out. Now focus on me."
I stared at them making out, despair welling within me. Then, my pain snapped me out of it. I felt something spilling out of me. With all my strength, I rasped, "Save me. Save my baby. I'll do anything, Cassius."
But the couple was deep in their carnal desires. Their breathing was louder than my whisper. Eventually, they were done, and Cassius held the glowing Jessica, while he had nothing but disdain for me.
"The results should be out now, and your little bastard doesn't need to be saved anymore."
Jessica happily straightened up her clothes. "Oh, don't do that. She is still your sister-in-law, even if she's not technically married to your brother."
Cassius kissed Jessica's ear. Gently, he said, "My mother only keeps that useless man around because she pities him."
Blood was spilling out of my lower body, but Cassius ignored it. With disgust, he told his men to throw me into the car. Philip was coming home that day, and Cassius wanted to expose me right in front of him.
I barely had any strength left, and I couldn't fight as they threw me onto the ground of the living room. Once the test results were out, Cassius gleefully tossed them in my face.
"Look at this, Rachel. Your child shares zero similarity with me!"
Since they had no time, Cassius used his DNA sample instead of Donald's. He thought they were brothers, so they should share the same DNA.
I summoned what little strength I'd recovered and looked at the paper, and I laughed.
That struck a nerve. "You're laughing even when you're going to die? You're a stain on our family's name, you slut! I'll kill the little bastard myself!" Cassius raised his leg and swung at my stomach.
Pain spread through my body, and I felt my ribs crack. I had no strength left to fight, and everything around me started to blur.
