Chapter 2
I forcibly woke him up and asked what was going on with the hotel room key. At that point, he was already starting to get irritated.
"What room key?"
I showed him the key.
He casually tossed it into the trash and said, without a care, "It’s probably from some actress during a game or something."
He tried to pull me back into bed with him.
But I grabbed my blanket and left the room.
……
By the time he woke up, it was already evening, and I had just returned from the office.
I asked if we could finally have a serious talk. He sat down, motioning for me to go ahead.
"Felix, I want to go public with our relationship. This secret romance is exhausting."
It was like I had stepped on a landmine. He immediately exploded.
"No way! This is the peak of my career. How could I go public with a relationship? If the fans find out, all my hard work will be for nothing!"
I did not understand. He could not go public with me, yet he could have rumors swirling about him and other women.
"That’s all just for the storyline, you know? It’s different with you."
He tried to reassure me, telling me to give him two more years. After that, he promised he would make our relationship public.
"Two years? But I might not have that long."
He laughed, as if I had said something ridiculous, and asked why I could not wait. I had already waited a year, so what was the harm in waiting a bit longer?
He even swore to it.
I swallowed everything else I had wanted to say.
Felix stayed home for two or three days before heading back to the set.
"Emma, feel free to drop by if you want to visit me on set!"
Watching him leave, I instructed my assistant to investigate the woman he was currently rumored with. I wanted her full background.
Before my assistant could get the details, the woman sent me a friend request herself.
"I’m Felix’s girlfriend."
I stared at the request and accepted it. I was curious to see what kind of two-faced person I was dealing with.
After I accepted, she bombarded me with photos. There were pictures of her holding hands with Felix, pictures of him sleeping, and even one of him in bed. He was shirtless, with only a blanket covering him.
The room in the photo was pink and girly, clearly a woman’s space.
"You must be the ‘sister’ Felix talks about, right? We’re both women. I know you like him too, but we’re together now. Please stop hanging around him with that ridiculous ‘sister’ excuse."
I clenched my fists and asked if she even knew who I was.
She did not respond.
I immediately drove to Felix’s set, bringing a bunch of food. When I arrived, I handed out the food to everyone.
Instead of going directly to Felix, I went to see the director.
I gave him the woman’s background information, and the moment he saw me, he was incredibly respectful.
"I don’t like her, and I definitely don’t want her doing any scenes with Felix. Replace her."
The director quickly arranged for her to be removed.
I then went to Felix’s room, but when I pushed open the door, there was a woman with him.
She was cozily wrapped around Felix in an intimate way.
When Felix saw me, he immediately pushed the woman aside and rushed over to greet me.
"Emma, you’re here already!"
Since I walked in, my attention had been solely focused on that woman.
Felix hurriedly pulled her over to introduce her.
"This is Zia Bailey. She’s the lead actress in this drama. We were just rehearsing."
Zia gave me a smug look and tried to act overly friendly, as if we were close.
"You can cut the fake friendliness. My parents didn’t raise me to fall for that," I said.
At that moment, her agent came in and called her out of the room.
Chapter 3
I had not come to see Felix in the first place, so after exchanging a few words, I was ready to leave. But just as I stepped out, I was stopped.
"Was it you? You’re the one who made the director replace me as the lead actress, aren’t you?"
I had not expected the director to move so quickly.
Her voice was loud, and the other actors overheard, sticking their heads out to watch.
"Wow, she crossed the wrong person this time. One word from her, and the lead actress is out."
Even Felix could not believe it. He asked if it was true.
I was done with the back and forth and admitted it outright that it was me.
Zia was hysterical and asked why I did it. That role was something she had worked so hard to get.
Not wanting to let the others hear, I gave a look to the crew nearby, and they cleared everyone out.
The three of us went back into the room.
Looking down at Zia, I told her this was the consequence of provoking me.
Clearly, Felix had not known anything about it. He asked what was going on, so I pulled out my phone and showed him.
"Is this true? When did I ever say you were my girlfriend?" he demanded, then slapped Zia across the face.
He quickly turned to me, pleading, "Emma, I hit her, okay? But we still need her for the shoot. Can’t you let her off this time?"
I was not having it and left immediately.
After I got home, the crew had already found a new lead actress, but Zia refused to leave the set.
Felix filmed for a while longer and then called me, saying he was not used to working with the new actress and wanted Zia back.
That very night, he returned home.
"Emma, just let them bring her back, okay? You want me to make a hit show, don’t you?"
I asked him if he actually liked Zia.
"Of course not! I only like you."
I gave him two choices. It was either to bring her back and go public with our relationship, or to continue working with the new lead.
"Again with going public. I told you, this is the peak of my career. We can’t! Why don’t you get that?
"Even if we don’t go public, it’s not like I’m dating or flirting with any of these actresses.
"I’m bringing her back, and this time, you can’t stop me."
I grabbed his hand and pushed him back down onto the couch, forcing him to look up at me.
He looked humiliated and his eyes were red with frustration.
"Now that you’re famous, you’ve got the confidence to stand up to me, is that it?"
He did not say anything, but his whole body flushed with anger.
As soon as I let go of him, he stormed out. I was utterly disappointed in him, wondering why I had ever bothered to help him in the first place.
……
Back then, both my parents had passed away within a year, leaving me to shoulder their responsibilities. That day, I was feeling overwhelmed, so my best friend, Shirley Jones, suggested we go out to unwind.
We ended up at a bar, where I saw Felix, forced by his agent to entertain clients. He looked pitiful, and in a moment of weakness, I decided to get him out of there.
But it was not without conditions. I made him agree to be my boyfriend for three years.
At first, we were just fulfilling the contract, but eventually, we developed real feelings. He even promised that he would work hard and marry me one day.
But now?
I could not stop my tears from falling.
After he returned to the set, Felix went to the director about bringing Zia back. The director called me, and in the end, my soft heart gave in. I agreed.
It was not until the production wrapped up, more than five months later, that Felix finally came home.
By then, I was barely holding on.
I had been coordinating the remaining company affairs with several top executives and had started the evaluation process for the successor I had been grooming.
Chapter 4
After wrapping up filming, Felix came home and apologized to me for everything that had happened.
"Just wait a little over a year, Emma. I promise I’ll go public with our relationship."
I shook my head and said, "Do whatever you want."
Later, someone messaged him, inviting him to hang out. He glanced at me, his eyes silently asking for permission.
"Go ahead," I told him.
What he did not tell me was that the gathering allowed plus-ones, but he did not mention it.
I had not deleted Zia from my contacts, and when I woke up the next morning, I saw a video she had sent me.
"Truth or Dare."
Felix chose "Truth," and someone asked what his relationship with me was.
"She’s just the girl next door."
Everyone laughed and accused him of lying, telling him to take a drink.
He pouted, annoyed, then answered again.
"If it weren’t for using her as a stepping stone, who would bother with someone so dull and boring?"
"Wow, you’re more ruthless than we thought. But that girl isn’t even that much older than you, and she treats you so well. Can you really walk away from that?"
"Walk away? I don’t care. If any of you want her, she’s yours."
I watched the video Zia sent, and shortly after, she sent me an invitation to meet for lunch.
When I arrived, it was just the two of us. She wore large sunglasses.
"You saw the video I sent you, right? You should know by now that he doesn’t care about you. So why not just let him go? You two can end things peacefully.
"He loves me. He’s with me, not you," she said confidently.
Zia then pulled down her turtleneck to reveal the love bites on her neck.
"See these? All from him."
"You really have no shame. Do you even realize what consequences you’re facing by provoking me?"
She did not seem to care. Maybe after I let her off last time, she thought I had no power.
Right in front of her, I called her boss. Then I made calls to all the major talent agencies.
Not long after, the news of her contract termination came through.
She stared at her phone, trembling uncontrollably.
"You’re finished," I said.
I took the tea the server had brought over and calmly poured it over her head.
As soon as I left the restaurant, my chest tightened painfully, my heart pounding like it was going to explode.
My private doctor rushed me to the hospital, and I passed out.
When I woke up two days later, I immediately picked up my phone to deal with work and review the results of the company’s successor evaluations.
That was when I saw a message from Felix.
"Where are you? What did you do to Zia? Do you know she tried to kill herself?"
I was about to put the phone down when he called.
"Why did you blacklist her? You think just because you’ve got a bit of power, you can ruin people’s lives?
"Do you even know she attempted suicide? You’re nothing but a murderer!
"I hate you. Stay away from me from now on."
I waited until he finished yelling before asking where he was. He hung up without answering.
When I tried to message him again, I realized he had blocked me everywhere.
I did not have much time left. All I wanted was for him to spend a little time with me, but even that was too much to ask.
I stared at my phone, feeling utterly numb, and deleted all of his contact information. When I got home, I moved back to my family house and sold the place we used to live in.
Another week passed in a blur of work.
I called Shirley and told her my plans.
She was furious, calling Felix nothing but trash.
I told her it was my fault for being too young and naive to see through him.
"Once the company’s new product launch is over, I’m leaving."
