The Act of Cheating

When I heard him say that he was now too good for me, I got so angry that I started to laugh.

"Then explain what I did for you five years ago."

"It's just freaking three million dollars! I'll pay you back tenfold if you want," Darren said. He got to his feet and looked down at me with a condescending expression. He then scoffed and turned to leave.

In my haste to stop him, I tripped on the thick carpet and fell to the ground on my knees.

"That's enough, Alyssa Vaughn! You're acting like an annoying fly who won't leave me alone. You disgust me!"

Darren then kicked me to the ground and cursed at me before leaving without looking back.

I fell back down on the carpet with my tongue pressed against my cheek. My anger had peaked. I had immediately thought up a million ways to make this scumbag pay. I was going to bring him down no matter what!

Mom had been right. Handsome men were all liars. They were nothing but bastards underneath their skin.

The next morning, the paparazzi somehow managed to snap photos of me going to his mansion in the middle of the night and Darren leaving in a huff after a while. They also snapped a few photos of me on my knees on the carpet when Darren left.

Once again, I was the top trending topic on Twitter. This time, it wasn't just Darren's and Eunice's fans who cursed at me and called me names—even non-fans were leaving me hate comments as well.

"Oh my god, is this woman a leech who'll die without him? She's even begging him on her knees! How pathetic!"

"Not a fan, but she disgusts me. Doesn't she understand what a breakup means? I can't understand her at all!"

Suddenly, my company and job position were posted online and made public to the world. I started receiving all sorts of hate mail—bloody wreaths, dead mice, and even hidden razors in parcels.

Someone even found photos of me giving a toast to one of my prospects while exchanging a few words. There was nothing going on in the photo. However, people started twisting the story behind it and saying that I was shamelessly meeting potential sugar daddies in private.

I spent so long on the top spot of the trending searches that I even got crowned "Top Search" by the social media platform. Everyone was talking about me, and the comments on all of the related posts were from keyboard warriors spreading false accusations about me.

"With so many sugar daddies, I'm sure she's already as loose as a goose! Haha! I'm so glad Darren broke up with her!"

"How shameless! I wonder how much they pay her for a night. No wonder she's such a high-ranking manager now! But if that was me, I'd already have been the CEO by now! Hahaha!"

Even the stock price of the company I worked at was severely affected. Thousands of fans boycotted our products. Some deranged fans even tried reporting me to the authorities. They accused me of running an illegal brothel by misusing my authority in the company.

No doubt, the easiest way to ruin a woman was to spread malicious lies about her, turn the media against her, and cyberbully her until she started doubting herself and caused her own destruction.

However, I wasn't one to stay silent. I wasn't going to let any of the people responsible for spreading false rumors about me get away that easily. I was going to hold them all accountable and make them pay for what they did!
