Chapter 3

The confusion on Brandon's face was almost worth the entire confrontation.

He stood there, amber eyes widening as his Alpha command washed over my son like water off a duck's back. Leo simply blinked up at him, more curious than intimidated. Brandon's jaw twitched—that familiar tell I once found endearing but now recognized as the precursor to his rage.

"This is impossible," he snarled, taking a step forward. "No pup should be able to resist a direct Alpha command."

"Mom," Leo tugged at my jacket, his voice carrying clearly in the tense silence. "Can we go now? This man is being weird."

A few onlookers stifled laughs, and Brandon's face flushed dark with humiliation. His eyes darted between Leo and me, calculations visibly racing behind them.

"You've taught him to resist," he accused, his voice dropping to a dangerous pitch. "Some rogue trick you picked up."

I simply smiled, the cold, composed smile I'd perfected in royal court. "Come, Leo. We have important business to attend to."

Brandon's control snapped. With a guttural sound of frustration, he spun on his heel and stalked toward the entrance, Victoria scurrying to keep pace beside him.

"Let's get you settled in the car, little prince," I murmured to Leo, guiding him back toward my motorcycle. I could feel Brandon's eyes boring into my back as we crossed the courtyard.

I had just helped Leo into his custom seat attachment and was buckling the safety harness when a shadow fell across us. The hairs on the back of my neck rose before I even turned.

"Still playing pretend, I see," Brandon's voice was dangerously soft. "A rogue with a motorcycle, acting like she belongs in civilized society."

I straightened slowly, positioning myself between him and Leo. "We're done here, Brandon."

His eyes flicked to my bike, contempt etching deeper lines around his mouth. "This piece of junk is probably stolen. Did you tell the boy that? That his mother is nothing but a thieving rogue?"

Before I could respond, Brandon's hand shot out, claws extending in a flash of movement. With one powerful swipe, he slashed through my front tire, the rubber deflating with a hissing sigh. Not satisfied, he drove his fist into the engine casing with a sickening crunch of metal.

"Brandon!" I couldn't contain my shock as he damaged the custom motorcycle Alexander had commissioned for me on our second anniversary—a machine worth more than Brandon's entire wardrobe.

He smirked, clearly misinterpreting my outrage as desperation. "Just reminding you of your place, Aria. Rogues don't get to play at having nice things."

Leo's distressed cry from the seat cut through me like a knife. "Mom! He broke your bike!"

The commotion drew the attention of the hotel security, three burly wolves in dark suits rushing toward us with expressions of alarm.

"Is there a problem here?" The lead security guard asked, eyes darting between us.

Brandon straightened, smoothing his designer jacket with exaggerated casualness. "No problem. Just dealing with a rogue situation." He waved dismissively. "This woman is a rejected mate causing trouble. Detain her until I've finished my business inside."

The guards hesitated, looking between us uncertainly. I remained perfectly still, one hand reaching back to reassure Leo while the other casually shifted my leather satchel, allowing the Royal Lycan Court insignia to catch the light.

One guard's eyes widened slightly at the sight, but Brandon was too busy posturing to notice.

"Did you hear me?" Brandon's voice hardened with Alpha command. "Detain her. Now."

The tense standoff was broken by the arrival of a slender woman in an impeccable hotel uniform, her badge identifying her as Elara Moonridge, Hotel Manager.

"Perhaps," she suggested with careful diplomacy, "the lady and her son would be more comfortable waiting in one of our private lounges while this... situation... is resolved?"

She turned to me with a subtle, apologetic incline of her head. "We have a lovely room just off the main lobby where you could wait in comfort."

Brandon snorted. "She stays right here where we can see her. I don't trust rogues wandering around unattended."

Elara's professional smile tightened almost imperceptibly. "As you wish, Alpha Hayes."

I met her eyes briefly, a silent understanding passing between us. With a slight nod, I turned to comfort Leo, who was watching the proceedings with growing distress.

"It's alright, little prince," I whispered, helping him down from the damaged motorcycle. "Dad will be here soon."

What Brandon didn't know was exactly who "Dad" was—and how catastrophically he had just miscalculated.
