Chapter 3

I stared at the stack of documents on my desk, my fingers tracing over the official letterheads of the City Planning Department, the State Construction Authority, and the Werewolf Council's Fraud Investigation Division. Each report contained meticulous evidence of Ruby's fraudulent activities—structural failures, falsified permits, and most damning of all, documentation of elderly pack members who had been conned into donating their life savings for a project that would never benefit them.

"Are you sure about this?" Paige asked, standing beside me in my home office. "Once we submit these, there's no going back."

I nodded, my resolve hardening as I thought of Christopher's pale face in the hospital bed. "I'm sure."

With a few clicks, I sent the comprehensive reports to all three agencies simultaneously. The digital submissions confirmed instantly, but I also had courier services delivering hard copies with my royal pack seal—a precaution that would ensure immediate attention.

"It's done," I said, leaning back in my chair. "Now we wait."

But we didn't wait long.

Three hours later, my phone buzzed with a text from Eleanor Hayes, one of the elderly pack members who had donated to Ruby's project.

"Diana! There are officials everywhere at the Guardian Den site! They've posted signs saying it's condemned!"

I smiled grimly as I typed back a thank you. Through the pack's gossip network, I learned that Ruby had arrived at the site to find construction halted, yellow caution tape surrounding the property, and official notices plastered across the entrance.

"She's hysterical," reported Marcus Thompson's mate, who had witnessed the scene. "Ruby's screaming that someone is sabotaging her project."

By evening, Ruby's frantic calls to Dean had escalated to the point where even I could hear his phone ringing incessantly from the other end of our house.

---

"You've gone too far this time."

Dean's voice thundered through our kitchen as he slammed his fist on the counter. I had been preparing dinner—a habit from years of playing the perfect Luna—when he stormed in, his face contorted with rage.

I set down the knife I'd been using to chop vegetables and turned to face him. "I've gone too far?"

"You know exactly what I'm talking about." He stepped closer, his Alpha aura pulsing around him like a physical force. "The Guardian Den project is being shut down. Ruby says there are all kinds of ridiculous claims about structural problems and fraud."

I remained perfectly still as he invaded my space. "They're not ridiculous claims, Dean. They're facts."

" Facts?" He laughed bitterly. "You're embarrassing the entire pack! This is exactly why I never told you about pack finances before—you don't understand how these things work."

I moved to the dining table where I had laid out copies of the evidence. "Perhaps you should look at these before making accusations."

Dean followed me reluctantly, his eyes narrowing as I spread out photographs, financial records, and testimonies from elderly pack members.

"Ruby has collected over two hundred thousand dollars from our most vulnerable members," I said, my voice steady and professional. "She promised them luxury assisted living facilities that were never going to be built."

"That's ridiculous," he scoffed, but his eyes betrayed him as they widened at the evidence before him.

"And you," I continued, sliding forward documents bearing his signature, "signed off on these financial transfers. Which makes you legally complicit in her fraud."

The color drained from his face as he stared at his own signature on the papers.

---

The next morning, I was reviewing blueprints in my office at the human engineering firm where I worked when a commotion erupted in the reception area.

"You can't go in there!" My assistant's voice was high with alarm.

"I demand to see her!" Ruby's shrill voice carried down the hallway. "She's destroying everything!"

Before I could react, Ruby burst into my office, flanked by two older pack members—Eleanor Hayes and her friend Margaret. My human colleagues poked their heads out of their offices, confused by the dramatic entrance.

"How dare you!" Ruby cried, tears streaming down her face. "Everyone knows you're doing this because you're jealous! You can't stand that Dean loves me more than you!"

I remained seated behind my desk, my expression carefully neutral as my colleagues watched the scene unfold.

"I've given everything for this pack," Ruby continued, her voice breaking dramatically. "And you're trying to destroy our future because you can't accept that Dean chose me as his mate!"

Eleanor and Margaret nodded sympathetically, clearly still under Ruby's influence.

I picked up my phone and dialed security. "I need assistance in my office, please."

As Ruby continued her tearful accusations, I calmly opened my desk drawer and removed a folder.

"These are legal documents proving your fraudulent activities," I said quietly, sliding them across the desk. "Building security is on their way to escort you out."

Ruby's face contorted with hatred as she realized her dramatic scene had failed to sway me.

"This isn't over," she hissed as security guards appeared at my door. "You'll regret this, Diana. I promise you that."
