Chapter 3

The full weight of Wayne's betrayal crushed against my chest as I sat alone in my quarters, the walls closing in with each passing moment. My hands trembled as I reached for the encrypted communication device I'd kept hidden beneath a loose floorboard—a precaution I'd taken months ago when I first sensed something was wrong.

"He marked her," I whispered to Luna, my wolf stirring restlessly within me. "And they're planning to steal our pup's birthright."

*We need to leave,* Luna growled. *Now.*

I nodded, my fingers hovering over the device. There was only one pack I could trust—Silvercrest. And only one Alpha who might be powerful enough to stand against Wayne.

Alpha Beckett Cooper.

I'd never met him in person, but his reputation preceded him—fair, strong, and notoriously protective of those who sought his aid. More importantly, he had no political ties to Wayne that might complicate matters.

With shaking hands, I activated the device, setting it to the secure frequency used only for inter-pack emergencies.

"Silvercrest Pack, this is Luna Selene of Moonstone," I whispered, my voice barely audible even to my own ears. "I seek private audience with Alpha Beckett on a matter of utmost urgency."

The silence stretched for several heartbeats before a deep, commanding voice responded.

"This is Alpha Beckett. Luna Selene, you honor us with your contact."

Something in his tone made my wolf still, her attention suddenly focused.

"I seek sanctuary," I said bluntly, deciding honesty was my only currency now. "And I offer my healing knowledge in exchange for protection."

There was a pause, and I could almost feel the weight of his consideration through the connection.

"Your healing techniques have saved countless wolves," he finally responded. "Including several of my own pack members who would have been lost without your methods. But Luna Selene... why do you seek sanctuary? What has happened?"

I closed my eyes, fighting back tears. "My Alpha has betrayed our mate bond. He's marked another and plans to... replace my child."

The growl that came through the communication was so fierce I nearly dropped the device.

"Tell me everything," Beckett commanded, his Alpha authority bleeding through the connection.

As I explained the full scope of Wayne's deception—the stolen healing center, the secret marking, the cruel plan to switch our pups—I felt something strange happening. My wolf was growing calmer, more focused, as if recognizing something important.

"He will pay for this," Beckett's voice was deadly quiet when I finished. "Luna Selene, I offer you and your daughter sanctuary under Silvercrest protection. Immediately."

"Alpha Beckett," I began cautiously, "I need time to—"

"No," he interrupted, his tone gentler now. "You need protection now. I feel... something when I hear your voice, Luna Selene. Something I've never experienced before."

My breath caught. "What do you mean?"

"Your scent," he said quietly. "Even through this communication, I can sense it. And my wolf... he recognizes yours."

The implication was clear, and impossible. A fated mate bond couldn't form when one was already mated—could it?

"I don't understand," I whispered.

"I think," Beckett said carefully, "that we were meant to find each other. But I would never force such a connection, especially not now. What I offer is protection, first and foremost."

Luna stirred within me, her certainty washing through our shared consciousness. *He's our true mate,* she insisted. *The one the Moon Goddess always intended.*

"Thank you, Alpha Beckett," I finally said. "I need to make preparations. For my daughter's safety, if nothing else."

"Of course," he agreed. "But know this—you are not alone anymore."

After ending the connection, I sat motionless for several minutes, processing everything that had happened. A true mate bond? After all these years with Wayne? It seemed impossible.

But Luna's certainty was unwavering.

*We need proof,* I finally decided. *Proof of everything Wayne has done.*

Moving silently through the pack house, I made my way to the archives where all pack records were kept. As Luna of Moonstone Pack, I had access to everything—including the documentation of every healing technique I'd developed.

I pulled out the original journals where I'd recorded each innovation, comparing them to the official pack records. Wayne had systematically credited himself with my work, claiming each breakthrough as his own while relegating me to the role of "assistant."

"He's been planning this for years," I realized aloud, gathering the evidence.

Next, I slipped into Wayne's office while he was occupied with Lyra, retrieving financial records that showed how he'd diverted funds meant for pack improvements into the luxury wing for his new mate.

"Mommy?"

I nearly dropped the papers as my daughter's small voice came from the doorway.

"Emma," I whispered, kneeling to her level. "What are you doing up so late?"

"I had a bad dream," she said, her eyes wide and frightened. "About you going away."

My heart clenched. "Why would you dream that, sweetheart?"

"Because," she said simply, "Daddy said you might have to go somewhere for a while. But he promised I'd still have a mommy."

The lie was so transparent it made my blood boil. Wayne was already preparing Emma for my replacement.

"Come here," I said, gathering her into my arms and making a silent vow. "We're going on an adventure soon. Just you and me."

As I held her close, I knew there was no turning back. Whatever it took, however long it took, I would protect my daughter from Wayne's schemes—and claim the life that was truly meant to be mine.
