Chapter 3

The full moon ceremony should have been a night of reverence and pack unity. Instead, it became the moment my world shattered completely.

I stood at the edge of the ceremonial circle, watching our pack members gather in their finest traditional garments. The ancient oak that had witnessed countless Luna ceremonies cast dancing shadows in the firelight, its branches seeming to reach toward the silver orb above us like gnarled fingers seeking benediction.

Nicholas moved through the crowd with practiced Alpha authority, greeting elders and warriors with the confidence that had once made my heart swell with pride. But now I watched him differently, cataloguing every gesture, every smile, searching for signs of the stranger who had dismissed my concerns so coldly.

That's when I saw her.

Amara Cook stepped into the firelight wearing a flowing white ceremonial dress that caught the flames like liquid silver. But it wasn't her dress that stopped my breath—it was what adorned her wrist.

My mother's Luna bracelet.

The sacred silver band with its intricate moonstone centerpiece gleamed against Amara's skin like a brand of ownership. Each delicate engraving told the story of Luna lineage stretching back seven generations, blessed by Moon Goddess herself during my mother's own ceremony twenty-five years ago.

Luna's howl of rage nearly burst from my chest. The bracelet was more than jewelry—it was a sacred relic, meant to pass from Luna mother to Luna daughter, carrying the spiritual authority of our bloodline. My mother had worn it through her own trials, her own betrayals, her own moments of triumph. She'd pressed it into my hands on her deathbed, making me promise to honor its legacy.

And Nicholas had given it to his whore.

"Elena," I whispered to my pack sister, who materialized beside me with the silent grace that made her our best tracker. "Do you see—"

"I see it." Elena's voice carried the low growl of her wolf. "That's your mother's bracelet. How dare she."

Amara moved through the ceremony with calculated grace, positioning herself where the firelight would catch the moonstone's glow, where other pack members would notice and whisper. She caught my gaze across the circle and smiled—a sharp, predatory expression that held no warmth, only triumph.

The bracelet caught the light again as she raised her hand to brush imaginary dust from her dress. The gesture was deliberate, meant for me to see, to understand that she had claimed not just my mate but my sacred inheritance.

"We need to talk," Elena murmured. "After the ceremony. There are things you need to know."

I nodded, unable to trust my voice. The ceremony continued around us—Elder Morrison's traditional blessing, the pack's unified howl to honor the Moon Goddess—but I heard none of it. My entire focus remained fixed on that stolen piece of my mother's legacy, now defiled by Amara's touch.

When the formal ceremonies concluded and pack members began to disperse into smaller groups, Elena guided me away from the firelight toward the quiet grove where we'd shared secrets as young wolves.

"I've been tracking them," Elena said without preamble, her enhanced senses having picked up the same foreign scents that had first alerted me. "The patterns are worse than you know, Lydia. Much worse."

She pulled out her phone, showing me photos she'd taken during her reconnaissance. "They've been using the Luna's sacred grove—the one where your mother used to hold private ceremonies. Amara's scent is all over the altar stone."

The violation hit me like a physical blow. The Luna's grove was the most sacred space in our territory, meant only for the spiritual duties of the pack's Luna. That Nicholas would allow—encourage—such desecration spoke to a corruption deeper than simple infidelity.

"There's more," Elena continued, her voice gentle but relentless. "Those late-night treats you've been making him? The ones after his supposed border patrols?"

I nodded, remembering countless nights when I'd waited up to provide comfort and sustenance for my hardworking mate.

"He goes to her first. Every time. I've tracked the timeline—he spends hours with Amara, then comes home to you for his guilty conscience snacks. You've been rewarding him for betraying you, Lydia. He's been using your love as an alibi."

The words hit me like silver bullets, each one finding its mark in the already wounded places of my heart. Every gesture of care, every act of devotion had been twisted into something ugly, manipulated to serve his deception.

Luna's rage finally broke free in a low growl that made Elena step back in surprise. The sound carried all my anguish, all my fury, all my determination to see justice done.

"Help me gather evidence," I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. "Everything. Every meeting, every violation, every lie. If Nicholas wants to play games with sacred bonds and family legacies, he's about to learn what happens when you betray a Luna who's done being weak."

Elena's smile was sharp as her wolf's teeth. "Now you're talking. Let's hunt."
