Chapter 3

The hospital room felt too quiet as I scrolled through my social media accounts. Three days had passed since I lost my pup—since Kelsey had pushed me and taken everything from me with one vicious shove. The pain in my abdomen had dulled to a persistent ache, but the hollow emptiness inside me gaped wider than ever.

"We need to do something," I whispered, more to myself than anyone else.

Isabella appeared in the doorway, her arms laden with equipment. "I thought you might say that," she replied, setting up her camera and lighting equipment with practiced efficiency. "The whole werewolf community is waiting to hear from you."

I pushed myself up against the pillows, wincing slightly. "They don't know what happened."

"Exactly." Isabella's eyes flashed with determination as she adjusted her laptop. "Which means we have the element of surprise."

She was right. My followers—over two hundred thousand strong across multiple platforms—knew me as the knowledgeable antiques appraiser, the respected Luna of Knight Pack. They didn't know me as the betrayed mate who'd lost everything.

"Let's start with what we do best," I said, my voice gaining strength. "The brooch."

Isabella nodded, understanding immediately. "I've already pulled the archival photos from your previous appraisals."

We worked in focused silence, selecting images that showed the authentic Luna heirloom in detail—the distinctive Knight cut diamonds, the platinum backing with its subtle hallmarks, the historical wear patterns that told its story across generations.

"This is the real one," I said, pointing to a high-resolution image. "See how the central diamond catches the light? That's because of the proprietary cut developed by the first Knight Pack Alpha's jeweler."

Isabella zoomed in. "And this is the fake?"

"Yes." My fingers trembled slightly as I pulled up the photo I'd taken in the vault. "It looks identical at first glance, but there are crucial differences. The weight is wrong—the platinum backing is thinner. And here—" I pointed to the setting, "—the craftsmanship is newer, despite attempts to make it look aged."

"Can you explain why this matters?" Isabella asked, her recorder running.

I took a deep breath. "This isn't just jewelry. It's the symbol of Luna authority in Knight Pack. For three generations, it's been passed from Luna to Luna, marking the sacred bond between mates and pack leadership."

My voice cracked slightly. "It's not just mine. It belongs to the pack itself."

Isabella's eyes softened with sympathy, but she kept recording. "What does it mean that it's been given to someone else?"

"It means," I said carefully, choosing words that would resonate with my followers without revealing everything yet, "that sacred traditions have been violated. That something precious has been stolen."

We finished the post with a detailed comparison of the authentic piece and the forgery, highlighting the historical significance and the expert craftsmanship that made the original irreplaceable.

"Are you ready for this to go live?" Isabella asked.

I looked at the finished product—a balanced combination of professional expertise and personal pain. "Yes."

The response was immediate and overwhelming. Comments flooded in from across the werewolf community, expressing shock and outrage. Pack leaders from territories I'd never visited weighed in with support. Other Lunas shared stories of similar betrayals, creating a chorus of solidarity.

"The community is behind you," Isabella said, scrolling through the notifications. "But we need more."

---

Dalton arrived as dusk fell, his expression grim but determined. He carried a leather portfolio and a small recording device.

"I've been busy," he said simply, placing both on the hospital bed beside me.

"Hotel receipts," he explained, opening the portfolio to reveal meticulously organized documents. "From the Moonstone Hotel. Conrad has been meeting Kelsey there for months."

I picked up one receipt dated three weeks ago—when Conrad had claimed to be handling border disputes with neighboring packs.

"Witness statements too," Dalton continued, pulling out a small digital recorder. "The hotel staff remember them well. Apparently, they weren't particularly discreet."

My throat tightened. "How did you get these?"

"Beta network," he replied with a small smile. "We may not have Alpha authority, but we have other ways of getting information."

He played one recording—a hotel receptionist describing how the "handsome Alpha" always requested the same private dining room for his "special friend" with the beautiful jewelry.

"And this," Dalton said, pulling out a final set of photographs, "is the most damning evidence."

The photos showed Conrad presenting the brooch to Kelsey—my brooch—in what appeared to be a private ceremony. Her expression was triumphant as she fastened it at her collarbone.

"When was this taken?" I whispered.

"Two months ago," Dalton replied, his voice gentle but firm. "Conrad stole your mating token and gave it to her long before..."

Before I lost our pup. Before everything fell apart.

"I've also been researching pack law," he continued, pulling out a folder of legal documents. "As Luna, you have rights that Conrad has violated. Serious violations."

He spread the documents across the bed, his expression serious. "Elouise, you don't have to face this alone. But you do need to decide what you want to do next."

I looked at the evidence spread before me—the proof of Conrad's betrayal, the legal avenues available to me, the support of my community waiting for my next move.

"What are my options?" I asked, feeling something stir within me that wasn't quite anger or grief, but something stronger.

Dalton's eyes met mine, steady and certain. "That depends on how much you want to make him pay."
