Chapter 6

AMARA’S POV

“What? Did I hear that right?” I scratched my head as Jazzy hysterical question echoed in the room.

Her eyes were wide, his mouth hanging open. Was he really that shocked?

“Oh, I told you so! You even denied it when I asked you before,” he said, still sounding overly excited.

The sound of the door closing and locking filled the room. We were now in the club room because I wanted to tell them something important—something I’d been keeping to myself for too long. I was finally going to admit what I truly felt for my best friend, Seb.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t want you to know yet. I wasn’t sure how to tell you.”

“Because you think we’d judge you?” Kolin asked gently, her eyes calm and sincere as they met mine.

“We’re your friends. Do you really think we’re that kind of people?” There was a trace of hurt in her voice.

“I’m sorry, but you can’t blame me. I’m… I’m just scared.” Tears were starting to form in the corners of my eyes, but I held them back. I didn’t want them to see me cry.

“Hey, girl! You’re a girl, and Sebantian is a guy—so it’s totally normal for you two to fall in love!” Jazz exclaimed, pointing at me like he was announcing breaking news.

Sometimes Jazz could be so dramatic. If I had a roll of tape, I would’ve stuck it over his mouth already. I was starting to regret ever saying he was different from other talkative gay guys.

“Right. I agree with you, Jazz,” Kolin added, and the two even shared a knowing look.

“Hey! Don’t you dare cry!” Kolin scolded when she noticed the tears welling up in my eyes. She was facing me, while Jazz stood behind me, so of course she could easily notice.

I rolled my eyes. “I won’t, okay? I’m holding it in.”

She nodded approvingly. “Good. You shouldn’t be crying over my cousin just yet.”

“Wait, when did you even start liking him?” Jazz suddenly asked.

I froze for a moment, then smiled. Jazz adjusted her seat as if preparing to hear a story.

“For a long time,” I said without hesitation.

“When exactly?” he pressed, annoyed by my vague answer.

“When I got hospitalized because of Claire. He promised me then that he’d always protect me and never leave my side.” A soft smile touched my lips. Every time I remembered that moment, I couldn’t help but smile and blush.

The emotions I once tried so hard to hide were finally free to show—at least to my friends.

“He promised you that?” I wasn’t sure what Kolin meant by her tone, but I ignored it and answered anyway. “Yes. You were with us when he said it, weren’t you?”

She nodded slowly. “Yeah, I was there… maybe I just didn’t hear it clearly.”

“Seriously? You’ve been keeping those feelings for so long. But are you sure you’re ready to confess to him?” Jazz asked, sounding half amazed, half curious.

“Yes, I’m ready. There’s no turning back. Even if he can’t return my feelings.” I smiled faintly, though it felt bittersweet.

Honestly, I didn’t know how I would feel if Seb didn’t feel the same way. I’d respect him, of course—but I couldn’t promise I wouldn’t get hurt. That’s just how love works sometimes; you love, and you get hurt.

“I doubt that,” Kolin suddenly said.

My head lifted at once, my heart skipping a beat.

“You think he’ll like me back?” I asked eagerly.

I looked straight into her eyes, waiting for her answer, but she said nothing. It was Jazz who spoke instead.

“What about you? What do you think?” he asked softly.

Our eyes met, and I saw genuine concern in his expression. I just lowered my head and shrugged.

What would they say if they knew that Seb and I… well, I didn’t even know what to call our situation right now. Were we fighting? Were we okay? Whatever it was, I wasn’t ready to tell them. I was sure Sebastian and I would fix it soon anyway.

When I looked up again, both of them were staring at me with worried eyes. I gave them a small smile and said quietly,

“I don’t know. But I do hope he will.”

---

“I’M sorry.”

I stared at him, confused, then glanced back at the flowers he was holding. Seb was standing there, holding a bouquet—giving it to me, apparently.

“Are those… for me?”

“Who else would they be for?” His tone sounded a little sarcastic, though I knew he didn’t mean it that way.

“But why are you giving me flowers? And why are you saying sorry?” I kept my voice light and innocent. Of course, I had a hunch about why he was doing this, but I wanted to hear it straight from him.

“I’m sorry if I acted like a jerk this morning,” he said seriously.

Even while apologizing, his brows were still furrowed. I couldn’t tell if he was being completely sincere or just awkward. But instead of getting annoyed, I actually found it… cute.

"I understand. Maybe you just weren’t in the mood earlier.” I smiled sweetly as I took the bouquet from him. I looked at the flowers, brought them closer, and smelled them.

“You’re forgiven,” I said softly.

Even though, honestly, I wasn’t entirely sure what he was apologizing for. Had we really fought? Or was it just a misunderstanding? Everything between us felt so confusing lately.

After a while, when I had enough of admiring the flowers, I looked back at him—and froze.

He was staring at me. Not just looking, but really looking. His gaze was steady and focused, like I was the only thing that existed in his world at that moment. I wasn’t stupid. I knew he had been watching me for a while now.

I cleared my throat, hoping to ease the tension that suddenly filled the air. His stare was making my heart race in a way I couldn’t control.

“Seb?”

With just one blink, a smile curved on his lips. “You like it?”

“Uh-huh. You’re so sweet, Sebastian. Thank you…” I smiled at him—this time, a genuine one.

Then, out of nowhere, he reached for me. His hands gently but firmly wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer. A wave of electricity ran through my whole body. He was holding me so close, I could almost feel his heartbeat.

My eyes widened in surprise as he leaned in and whispered near my ear, his voice low and warm.

“You’re always welcome, my Amara.”
