Chapter 3

The night wrapped around me like a shroud as I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the fallen bracelet. Each crystal caught the moonlight, mocking me with its false promise. Eight years. Eight years of devotion reduced to this – a secondhand gift meant for another woman.

A soft knock at my door pulled me from my spiraling thoughts.

"Luna Olivia?" Elara's gentle voice called from the hallway. "I brought you some tea."

I quickly wiped away my tears. "Come in, Elara."

The door creaked open, and Elara, one of our pack's kindest Omegas, entered with a steaming mug. Her eyes widened when she saw my state – hair disheveled, eyes red-rimmed.

"Oh, Luna," she whispered, setting down the tea and kneeling beside me. "I'm so sorry."

"You know, don't you?" I asked, my voice hollow. "About Victoria."

Elara nodded, her gaze falling to the bracelet on my nightstand. Something flickered across her face – recognition, then guilt.

"What is it?" I asked.

She hesitated, wringing her hands. "I shouldn't say anything..."

"Please, Elara." I reached for her hands, steadying them with my own. "I need the truth."

Tears welled in her eyes. "The bracelet. I... I was cleaning Alpha James's study last month when Victoria visited. He showed her that bracelet, and she..." Elara's voice dropped to a whisper. "She laughed and called it 'too cheap' for her taste."

The revelation hit me like a physical blow. Not only was my anniversary gift a castoff, but it had been rejected by Victoria first. Even in his attempt at affection, James had only offered me Victoria's scraps.

"I'm so sorry," Elara sobbed. "You've been nothing but kind to all of us. You don't deserve this."

A strange calm settled over me as the final piece of my shattered illusion fell into place. "Thank you for telling me, Elara."

After she left, I sat in the darkness, my wolf stirring restlessly within me.

*We can't let them take everything from us,* Lyra growled, her voice stronger than I'd ever heard it.

*What can we do?* I asked her silently. *By pack law, all my work belongs to James.*

*Not all laws are just,* Lyra replied. *And not all paths forward are obvious.*

I closed my eyes, concentrating on the one connection I'd maintained over the years – a tenuous link to Alpha Marcus Grant of the Silver Moon Pack. His recruitment offers had come like clockwork every year, professional and respectful of my mate bond. I'd always declined, but I'd kept his contact information.

Using Lyra's heightened senses, I focused on the unique scent signature all werewolves could use for mental communication over distances. It was rarely used outside of emergencies or between intimate pack members, but I had no choice.

*Alpha Marcus,* I projected, infusing my mental voice with the scent of freesia and rain-soaked earth – my personal signature. *This is Olivia Warren. I need help.*

Minutes passed in silence. Then, like a whisper on the wind, his response came:

*Luna Olivia. I've been waiting for your call. Whatever you need, the Silver Moon Pack stands ready.*

The relief nearly overwhelmed me. *I need to know my rights. My work. My formulas.*

*My pack's legal counsel is at your disposal,* came his steady reply. *What James is doing violates ancient laws of creation rights. Even an Alpha can't claim what was born from your unique gift.*

Hope – fragile but real – bloomed in my chest for the first time since seeing Victoria in that cottage.

I rose from the bed, moving to my private scent lab hidden behind a false wall in my closet. James had never bothered to learn the details of my work, confident in his ownership of the results. His arrogance would be his undoing.

As I pulled out my leather-bound journals – meticulous records of every formula, every experiment, every breakthrough – Lyra's presence grew stronger within me.

*Look at what you've created,* she urged as I flipped through pages of complex formulas and personal notations. *This is your legacy, not his.*

Tears fell onto the pages as eight years of work spread before me. The Eternal Bond series – named for what I thought we shared – had saved his pack from financial ruin. And now he would give credit for my masterpiece to Victoria.

*You deserve justice,* Lyra's voice resonated through my entire being. *We deserve justice.*

For the first time since my wolf awakened late in my teen years, I felt truly connected to her – our pain, our rage, our determination fusing into something powerful and unbreakable.

"Yes," I whispered aloud, tracing my fingers over the formula for what James was renaming "Victoria's Dream." "We do."

As the first light of dawn crept through my window, I knew with absolute certainty that James Pierce had made the biggest mistake of his life. He hadn't just betrayed his mate – he'd awakened a wolf who would no longer be silenced.
