Chapter 7
Sunlight filtered in the room from the window.
A low growl of irritation escaped me as I muttered a curse beneath my breath.
I had no doubt it was my step mother again, opening the window and disturbing my sleep this early.
I opened my eyes, bracing myself for her permanent scowl, only to be greeted with the sight of an unfamiliar luxurious room.
I moved to sit up straight in shock, as a sharp pain seared through me from my womanhood.
My eyes widened in shock, as memories from last night rushed back in, along with the image of the mysterious beast of a man I spent the night with.
Memories of me passing out in his hands while he carried me.
During my haze of sleep, I remembered him muttering something about taking us to somewhere more comfortable, flashed through me as I stilled.
‘Oh Lord, what have I done?”A wave of fear clawed at my chest.
But then memories of Xavier in bed with Natasha flashed in my mind and I stilled.
The fear was immediately replaced by satisfaction when I thought of Xavier’s shock, the moment he realized I had given the virginity he fantasized of taking to another man.
Has he left? I wondered.
Immediately sliding off the bed, ignoring the stinging pain.
I searched round the luxurious suite, looking for him but he was nowhere to be found.
“He did leave,”I muttered to myself.
My gaze caught something on the nightstand of the bed.
I moved to get a closer look, my brows creasing in confusion.
A bitter laugh burst out of my throat, as my eyes burned with tears when recognition hit me of what it meant.
A damn bundle of cash.
He had left money, paying for our night.
The sight of it made me feel used. Degraded, and treated like a slut.
After our passionate night, I would have expected to at least be treated better, maybe at least see his face one last time as we parted ways.
Anything but being paid like a hooker, who he did not even bother to spend one last minute with before he left.
The ringtone of my phone snapped me out of my thoughts—my body shuddering with disgust.
I wiped the tears pouring from my eyes, and answered on seeing my stepmother's name pop up.
“Where have you been?
How dare you not come home last night!
Were you out whoring yourself like your useless mother?” She sneered through the phone.
Her words hit the mark, as her insult cut deep.
She was not wrong this time, I thought with a sad smile looking at the bundle of money in my hands.
I had indeed whored myself out.
Sleeping with a man whom I barely even knew his name.
Worst of all, I had even begged him to do it, I thought, as shame filled me.
And he had left a bundle of cash on his bedside, what else would I be called but a prostitute.
“What do you want?” I asked flatly.
“Xavier is coming home this afternoon, with his parents,” she said in glee.
“We see no need delaying your marriage any longer, We have decided to push the public engagement ceremony to next weekend.
The wedding is in less than a month.
So be on your best behavior.
Wherever you are, I don’t care,” she hissed her last words like poison, as she continued.
“Come home and clean the house before they arrive.
We cannot have our guest sitting in a dirty environment, be fast, slave, you know what would happen if you make me angry.
Your filthy mother would suffer from it.”
My throat clenched from anger at her words.
She had fired all the maids three years ago, forcing me to take their place.
Serving as the new maid in the Harnes mansion was part of the contract between us.
My hand clenched in a fist.
Anger crawled in my chest, as my mind dragged me back to three years ago when I had come crawling at her feet for help.
Vivian’s sharp eyes peered down on me.
I knelt before her, tears trailing down my face and my mother’s result in my hands.
“What exactly are you willing to do, in exchange for my help, girl?” She hissed, her eyes gleaming with amusement as she watched my pathetic state.
My heart thundered against my chest, as my stomach curled.
“Anything.
I’ll do anything Vivian, but please help us,” I pleaded, letting go of all of my shame before her.
Her lips curled into a satisfied smirk as she watched me.
“Good.
Then are you willing to be under my control for as long as I want?” She said, dropping down, closer to my height on my knees.
“I’ll pay for your mother's medical expenses, but on one condition.
You sign your life away to me, and do each and everything I want you to do as my puppet.
But the day, you even as much as cross me…” she hissed, her voice venomously.
She stretched her hands before my face dramatically, making a ‘poof,’ sound.
“The payments for your mother’s medical bills would be gone like wind.
And I’ll personally ensure that she is thrown out of each and every hospital.
And you and your pathetic mother are left to rot on the streets,” she said eyeing me cruelly, her hot breath fanning my face.
“Do you agree with my condition, Leah?”
